The former headquarters of the National Socialist German Worker's Party on Königsplatz in Munich is now home to the city's Documentation Centre for the History of National Socialism.
The place of learning and remembrance offers the opportunity to deal with the National Socialist past of the city of Munich and the consequences of the dictatorship at the historical site.
The Munich Documentation Centre on National Socialism explores the history of National Socialism with a view to the present and the future, placing the historical experiences of the dictatorship within a contemporary and global context. Munich’s role as the birthplace and headquarters of the National Socialist Party is of particular significance in this regard. Topics such as war and genocide, racism and anti-Semitism, exclusion and flight form further focal points.
Spanning around 1,000 square metres, the exhibition ‘Munich and National Socialism’ provides in-depth historical insight into the city’s unique role within the dictatorship’s system of terror and the challenges of coming to terms with this past since 1945. Changing artistic interventions and exhibitions offer new perspectives on history and explore current socio-political issues against this historical backdrop.
